Aqvangado Gallery
My interests are varied, and the materials I choose to reveal my ideas run the full gamut of contemporary artistic practice. My main themes are primitive and deal with loss, memory and rebirth. In a word, aqvangado which translated from ancient Aztec means roughly "melancholy over love." So what I'm attempting to express by means of imagery, color, composition, texture and movement is a sort of bittersweet natural phenomenon. I also hope to reveal simple facts about our common existence. I enjoy bringing to light the simple things which are wonders often taken for granted.

I frequently draft crude images on remnants of paper, wood and metal to present my work as a random yet thoughtful offering. Art to me is simply a way to leave the confines of the material world and approach the freedom of dealing directly with complex emotions and ideas. I love experiencing and creating from this perspective. I think these views stem from my being a mostly self-taught artist not bound by any one style or school of thought.

I believe even if a piece does not have a soul, it should still convey spirit, and its spirit should affect those who come in contact with it. This idea allows for a different way of observing objects, and also allows me to work with any material available in order to tell a story.
